We have learned that the City of Corvallis has changed the location of its hearing on a proposed ban on loaded firearms in the city to the Majestic Theater.

The hearing is scheduled for Nov 3rd at 5.30 PM. The theater is at 115 SW 2nd Ave in downtown Corvallis.

It's imperative that Second Amendment supporters be at this hearing. If this ordinance is passed it will be one more nail in the coffin of our rights and these bans will spread across the state.

Please do all you can to be at this hearing and speak out for gun rights and the Constitution.

SAF Fights for Individual Self-Defense Rights at United Nations

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today offered testimony before the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of the right of individual self-defense, especially for women in developing countries.

Speaking for SAF was Operations Director Julianne Versnel, who told the panel, “The United Nations recognizes the right of governments to defend themselves, and to possess the means of doing so. Yet this body perpetuates the situation that keeps the number of women victims growing by denying them, and in fact all human beings, the means to–and decrying even their right to—defend themselves.

“They are the victims not of small arms,” she continued, “but of political philosophies and state policies that say only governments are worthy of defending themselves. To argue that people have the right to live but not to defend their lives is to argue in favor of continuing to keep women at risk of criminal violence in places where government does little to protect them.”

FAIRFAX, Va. – The NRA Foundation is proud to announce the 15 beneficiaries of the Oregon Friends of NRA 2014 Youth Scholarship Program. Each high-achieving high school senior will receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue higher education.

“It is an honor to see these youth learn about our Second Amendment through this program and to see them develop an appreciation for the freedoms it allows,” Katie Jones, chair of Douglas County Friends of NRA, said about the recently awarded scholarships. “I honestly believe educating youth today is the best way to protect these rights for future generations of Americans to enjoy.”

Scholarships are distributed through the Oregon Friends of NRA Scholarship Committee, a subcommittee formed in 2012 by the Oregon State Fund Committee. In its inaugural year, the Youth Scholarship Program issued five $1,000 scholarships and has shown promising growth each year.

Gun Ban Moving Forward

10/23/2014

Picture

Yesterday the Corvallis Human Services Committee voted to move a ban on loaded firearms to the full city council.

Was this based on any actual incidents of violence or accidents involving openly carried firearms on public property?

Was this the result of a long, reasoned debate that identified a real issue or problem?

No, this was the result of one member of the committee, Penny York, getting in touch with her feelings.

As the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported; "York, who admitted that her "decision is colored by my feelings," described her experience of knowing five people who have died from gunfire, four by suicide and one in a hunting incident."
