goa calls for resignation of va secretary eric shinseki

“The most recent reports now list that number [of disarmed veterans] around 175,000.” -- Human Events, March 23, 2014

Within the past week, Gun Owners of America received an e-mail from a member being treated by the VA (Department of Veterans Affairs).  The member was also receiving Social Security benefits, and Social Security had appointed a guardian to manage his financial affairs.

The member wrote us because the VA, based on the Social Security guardian, was moving to take his guns away.

Although it is Standard Operating Procedure for the VA to appoint its own guardians and use this to justify its gun ban on more than 175,000 veterans, it now appears to us that the VA is searching for new “gun ban excuses” to strip even more veterans of their constitutional rights.

Arizona - It is commonly said by those opposed to the second amendment, that police will not be able to discern armed citizens who are legally carrying guns from criminals, and that armed confrontations will then result in widespread carnage.

Here is an example where it did not happen.  From fox16.com:

Investigators said Qandil confronted his estranged wife, Tabitha Qandil, 31, Grayson Herrera, 23, and Dustin O’Conner, 27, as the three were headed to the movie theater.

NEWTOWN, Conn.—The National Shooting Sports Foundation is making a total of $100,000 in grants available to public and private colleges for start-ups of new target-shooting clubs and teams.

Watch a brief video about
the Collegiate Shooting Sports Initiative
The grants are provided through NSSF’s Collegiate Shooting Sports Initiative, which has assisted more than 75 schools with building competitive and recreational shooting programs through more than $1 million in support. The program is credited with helping to spur growth in collegiate target shooting across the country. NSSF is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry.

“It is gratifying to see how many colleges have taken advantage of these NSSF grants to provide students an opportunity to compete in target shooting and receive an introduction to recreational shooting and firearm safety at the club level,” said NSSF Manager of Shooting Promotions Zach Snow.

SAF Wins Permanent Injunction in Challenge to Arkansas CCW Law

5/12/2014

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation has won a significant victory on behalf of legal resident aliens in Arkansas, with a federal district court there declaring the state’s citizen-only concealed carry licensing law unconstitutional, and granting a permanent injunction against its enforcement on behalf of a man named Martin Pot (pronounced Pote), a citizen of the Netherlands.

U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks, for the Western District of Arkansas, handed down the ruling. He ordered the state to pay SAF $10,000 in attorney’s fees and court costs of $726.41. SAF and Mr. Pot were represented by attorney David Sigale of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
