The new membership fee structure is posted on the Membership Page.   During our annual review of our organization, we noted increased expenses and insurance required to sustain the organization.   This amounts to an additional $3,000.   To help in our decision, the board looked closely at what neighboring states were doing for their membership programs.   The result is a modest increase of membership fees.     In addition, we have enabled a benefit for multiple year memberships.

We have more work to do as an organization to increase memberships and revenues as these rates do not fully cover the gap produced by increased expenses.   Get involved with OSSA and shooting sports, share the shooting experience and our safety/wellness program.  Along way bring others on board.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program will be conducting a Small Arms Firing School for both Rifle and Pistol in Eagle Creek, Oregon May 14th & 15th, 2022. This is the same school that is taught annually during the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each summer. The United States Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) conducts the schools during the National Matches and will be sending instructors to Eagle Creek for these schools.

The Rifle SAFS will be held at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club. Saturday will start with classroom instruction followed by practice firing at 200 yards with the aid of experienced competitors providing coaching on the line. Sunday, all participants will fire a 40 shot “Excellence in Competition” (leg) Match. The top 10% of the non-distinguished competitors without any “leg” points will be awarded their first 4 points towards their Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge. All rifles and ammunition will be provided by the CMP. This school will be fired on electronic targets eliminating the need for pit duty.

The Pistol SAFS will be held at Estacada Rod & Gun Club. Saturday will start with classroom instruction followed by practice firing. Participants will then fire an “Excellence in Competition” (leg) match. The top 10% of non-distinguished without any “leg” points will be awarded their first 4 points toward their Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge. All pistols and ammunition will be provided by the CMP. For those competitors wanting more pistol shooting, Estacada Rod & Gun Club will host a 2700 pistol match on Sunday using their NEW turning target system. Fees for the 2700 will be collected at the range.

Proceeding the SAFS’s, Friday May 13th the CMP will conduct a Range Officers School at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club. Rifle in the morning and Pistol during the afternoon. This is a chance to learn what it takes to operate a range during a competition.

​Oregon’s James Fox wins at CMP Camp Perry, 2021

James Fox continues his dominance in across the course service rifle.  James took 2nd overall in the 2400 aggregate with 2383-131X, which is 2 points off the leader, but 28Xs better.  James claimed high civilian all 3 days and in the aggregate standing.

James Fox teamed up with Nick Till to win the Hearst Doubles trophy with a score of 595-30X.

James was in the top 10 in all position standings.

Oregon’s Mason White Sets Records and Wins Big at CMP Camp Perry, 2021 (CMP photo)
 
Mason White, a junior shooter from Sandy, Oregon, served up an outstanding performance at the 2021 CMP National Matches.  Topping the list was the high overall civilian and junior for the national individual service rifle match.   Mason took home the Nathan Hale Trophy (High Civilian) and the Golden Eagle Trophy (High Junior) in grand style by setting BOTH National Records with a 498-15x.  Congratulations Mason!!

The CMP matches are a weeklong ordeal and Mason performed well all week.

• Mason was 35th overall in the 2400 aggregate with at 2347-101x, just 2Xs off the first-place winner.  Mason was in the top 20 of each 800 aggregate days and got better each day.  He started at 19th, then 15th, then scored 10th overall.
• Mason was 54th in the Presidents 100 and has earned a P-100 tab.
• Across the various positions of prone, sitting, standing Mason maintained in the top 10 juniors in the nation.   An outstanding performance!   And when placed against the entire civilian field he was 9th place in rapid sitting, just 3 points off but 2Xs better than the leader.
